Throwback Gear History of the name - Lowell Tech Lowell Technological Institute was one of UMass Lowell’s predecessor institutions from 1953 to 1975. Located on what is now North Campus, its programs mainly focused on engineering, science and business. Many UML alumni are graduates of Lowell Tech.
